DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I’m probably the only one involved in this production who remembers when You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown opened in 1967.  Only two years earlier, A Charlie Brown Christmas debuted on television.  I was a big Peanuts fan and Charlie Brown’s laments struck a familiar chord with me.  I got to play the role of Charlie Brown in a college production and I learned a great deal about his character.  For all his failures and bouts with depression, Charlie Brown is nothing if not eternally hopeful.  No matter how tough things got, he kept on trying.  Hope is a virtue that theatre people are familiar with.  We are always hoping that the show will come together and we are always grateful when it does.
I would like to mention a few people who made our hopes for this production come true.  First, there is PACE Bingo who adjusted their schedule to allow us to use the bingo room when the VA Hospital Auditorium was unavailable.  Then, there is Mrs. Kristie Ossello and Mrs. Maureen Brogren who generously gave of their time and talents to help prepare our student performers.  Singing is difficult without a good accompanist and we are grateful to Mrs. Stephanie Schmitz for her keyboard artistry.  Then there was the large problem that I created when we built our stage on the third floor of the school (so we could rehearse on it) and then needed to get it down to the basement.  Thanks to Mr. Michael Monaghan for his personal attention in finding a capable crew of students to get the job done.
Of course these are not the only people who need to be thanked.  Many others have contributed to the success of this show but the real thanks goes to the students who are working very hard to make this the best of all possible shows.  This is a “high school musical” that Topeka can be proud of.
